The British Council Relaxed Performance training materials were designed in collaboration between British Council and Include Arts. They include all materials needed for a three-day training on how to produce a Relaxed Performance. These materials are meant to be used as guidelines and are intended to be adapted and updated as required. These resources are free to use, though we ask that you please credit appropriately when sharing publicly.

Day 1: The Foundations

Outlines how to relax performances and public environments, what is a Relaxed Performance, what is Disability Justice, guidelines for more inclusive practices in accessible performance. Day 2: Getting the Word Out

Outlines marketing and audience development, how to engage the public, outreach and audience development, inclusive marketing. Materials include PowerPoint slides, speaking notes, and worksheets. Download Day 2 materials here.

Day 3: Opening the Doors

Outlines welcoming audiences to your Relaxed Performance, core principles of customer service, theatre etiquette, front of house and box office policies, environmental audit and workplan. Materials include PowerPoint slides, speaking notes, worksheets, and a document on the ADA. Download Day 3 materials here.
