The Relaxed Performance training programme was inspired by the advancement in policy changes and actions towards disability arts in the UK. The British Council and its collaborators in Canada want to support and strengthen the sector to become more proactive and engaging. Additionally, the aim is to develop new and different audiences for the arts, and to involve the Canadian arts sector to take part in a global discussion on arts, disability and human rights in which we are actively engaged in Europe, the US and Brazil.

Working in collaboration with Canadian theatres and festivals, the objectives of the Access awareness and Relaxed Performance training are to:

  • Nurture a momentum in how Ontario arts venues connect and engage with disabled patrons and communities by developing a legacy formed by a strong local skill base;
  • Foster growth, confidence and leadership amongst industry professionals and the cultural workforce;
  • Build diverse audiences, to improve access for all and to enable shared experiences.
