We are honoured and very excited to be involved with the first Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto (IFWTO) which launches May 31 – June 3, 2018 at the Harbourfront Centre. IFWTO is presenting the most distinct and progressive Indigenous artists working in fashion, textiles and craft. The week includes showcases, curated exhibitions, artist talks, panels, lectures, hands-on workshops, and a trade and consumer marketplace, programming 60% or more Indigenous women artists and their works in fashion, textiles and craft.
We will be supporting a Creative Incubation Lab a fashion image-making collaboration intersecting Indigenous fashion and Western image-making. We are bringing creative design team Foxall from the UK to join a group of curated Indigenous fashion and textile and two Indigenous screen-based media artists will also support the image-making process. The curated fashion and textile artists will work with their collaborators to reimagine the artistic vision and identity of their works, challenging new and intuitive ideas with limited time and resources.
Over the course of three intense days, the curated artists will artistically lead the group through producing new representations of their work, installed as a living art exhibit; a living exhibit is characterized by public, in-gallery production, installation and two days of static exhibition. This collaboration will foster artistic identity and vision for Indigenous fashion and textile artists. In addition to the exhibition, the group will create a printed fanzine that will be distributed during Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto.
The Gallery will be open at the following times:
May 31, 10am-6pm
June 1, 2-9pm
June 2, 11am-9pm
June 3, 11am-6pm
Don't miss the Artist Talk & Reception on June 2, 6-7:30pm
