During Patrick Staff’s exhibition The Foundation, which runs from February 12 to April 24, 2016, the British Council is collaborating with the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver on an expanded public programming examining queer histories by bringing together a number of voices that generate resonances within the politics and interpersonal relationships that constitute the project. Grounded within a Canadian context, the programme seeks to forge a connection among Trans/Queer contexts, production, dialogues and communities.
To accompany the exhibition, a screening event and a broadsheet publication were co-programmed by Patrick Staff with Canadian curator and writer Robin Simpson. Staff will present a selection of film and video works exploring first person narratives, interview, account and witness in queer Canadian moving image production, which will reflect upon viewing it in a contemporary context.
The broadsheet publication, which includes specially commissioned texts by Juliet Jacques, Paige Sarlin, Staff and Simpson, will be distributed across the city of Vancouver, as well as in Toronto, in defunct Xtra newspaper boxes.
