October 18 - Shakespeare/Cervantes: Reimagining the masters

Co-presented with the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain

Renowned author Hisham Matar, shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, will participate in a discussion with Marcos Giralt Torrente on how Shakespeare and Cervantes have come to take on such cultural significance in 2016. They will read excerpts from Lovers, Lunatics and Poets, an anthology of short stories based on Shakespeare and Cervantes. 

October 18-19 - modern day bards

Co-presented with The Poetry House

Former UK Poetry Slam Champion Deanna Rodger will host a workshop for established and emerging spoken word poets based in Vancouver to explore how the traditional Shakespeare sonnet can be adapted by contemporary voices to talk about their lives today. Rodger’s work with the talents of the group will culminate in a performance on the evening of October 19.
