About Mayra
Mayra Sanchez Alvarez is a graduate student at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland. She’s working on her MA in Environmental Policy with an emphasis on the aging population’s nature-based tourism and ecological sustainability. Originally from Mexico City, she moved to the US to join her family and continue her studies. She earned a BA in Communication, Media & Theatre from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. During her undergraduate degree she took up volunteer work in different communities and social advocacy groups with the purpose to better the life of those around her and those who she’ll never meet. Her passion for the environment and the arts have inspired her to seek new venues to educate others on making more environmentally sustainable choices.
Calebrijes
Calebrijes aims to educate people in the arts while also showing them how to make more environmentally friendly decision. This project is something that any person can participate in, but I would like to focus on young people because they could benefit greatly from art projects and the ability to build something from scratch in their education. By using recycled, biodegradable, and compostable materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, we have the chance to reduce our environmental foot-print.
