British Council Canada was an enthusiastic contributor to the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing’s Social Finance Forum in November 2014. The Forum played host to more than 400 attendees from a range of sectors. We were particularly delighted to present Kieron Boyle, Head of Social Investment at the UK Cabinet Office, as a Forum keynote speaker.
While in Toronto for the Forum, Kieron participated in a series of closed-door meetings with the Ontario Government’s Office for Social Enterprise, and representatives from Canada’s federal government, during which he shared some of the UK’s experience of building a social investment sector, and learned about trends from Canadian officials.
The exchange around the Social Finance Forum builds on activity at Impact Ontario earlier in the year. British Council Canada was pleased to welcome from the UK: Katie Hill, Social Investment Advisor at the City of London Corporation, and Geoff Burnand, the CEO of Investing for Good. Geoff and Katie participated as Impact Ontario speakers and met with a number of officials from the Ontario Government to share the UK’s experience of building a Social Impact Bond market, and unlocking capital for social investment.
